Cattle Brands

You will need to find and identify a cattle brand used either in the past or present for this week's post.  You MUST have the following items in your post:

1) Describe what the brand looks like and post a URL where I can see a picture of the brand.  (Correction of original instructions)
2) The full name of the brand and the year of the brand's beginning if possible.
3) A small summary of the brand including
          a) the people involved
          b) the location of the ranch (state required)

Please see the following example below:

1)    2) Smith-Gilman 1871  3) In 1869, a young Oregon bachelor, James M. Gilman, arrived and then married Martha (Mattie) Smith on January 11th, 1871.  Mattie Smith had been 3 years old when her family, the Smith's, came to Whitewater Pass in California.  Gilman bought an old ranch and used the new Smith-Gilman brand on the property.

2)The Waggoner Ranch had a brand called "The Three D's." Started in the early 1850s.
3)This was started by Daniel Waggoner in the early 1850s. He used this brand on Longhorn and horses. At first, it started out as D61, but he changed it later to three D's facing backwards. This was easier to recognize and made it difficult for rustlers to steal. This brand is important because it was used in the past and now the present too.

  63. 1) King Ranch (it looks like an open, cursive w)

    2) "The Running W" and 1863 is when it began.
Some have said that it represents one of the ranch's many diamondback rattlesnakes or the Santa Gertrudis Creek, while others are sure it signifies the sweeping horns of a Texas Longhorn bull. The Running W could also be interpreted as a section of a continuing wave pattern – signifying the uniting of the past with the present and suggesting continuity into the future. Regardless of its meaning, the Running W brand is handsome and practical, designed to heal quickly, thwart rustlers, and grow with the animal that bears it -- just as it has evolved with King Ranch through the generations. Today the Running W appears on both prize-winning cattle and top quality leather goods as an indisputable icon of the American ranching industry.

3)a) it was established by Richard King and another man in the late 1800's. It is considered one of the largest ranches in the world.
b)Located in South Texas. 825,000 acres.
